Moving to Europe from Ashford

No town in England is better placed to begin a European road move. The shuttle terminal is a short run down the M20 and the Dover docks barely further, so the part of the journey that costs everybody else a morning barely exists here.

Four routes run often enough to warrant their own pages. Anywhere else in western Europe is an enquiry we answer honestly.

The four routes we run

On these four we hold agents, know the entry formalities and send vehicles often enough to price them properly. Each page carries the road route, the regions we deliver into, and a document list divided between the rows you obtain and the rows we obtain.

How a European job runs from here

It opens like a move to Willesborough: a survey, a measured volume, a written inventory. What changes is what that inventory becomes — a document an official at a border will read, which is why the wording is taken seriously. "Twelve cartons, books" and "boxes" are not the same declaration.

From there the geography does the work. The M20 runs to the terminal at junction 11a and the A20 to the Dover docks, so a loaded vehicle is at a crossing very quickly. The export declaration is raised before the terminal and the import entry lodged at the far end against the same list.

The same waiting problem, abroad

Overseas completions run late, exactly as developer handovers do here, and on the Spanish and Portuguese routes they run latest of all. The answer is the one this firm uses every week: collect against the date that is certain, hold the goods listed, ship when the far end is confirmed. The storage page sets out how that works.

Collecting beyond Ashford

A vehicle heading for the terminal passes most of Kent on the way, so second pickups across the county are routine. When a European run is already scheduled we will also collect from London, Manchester, Birmingham, Leeds, Glasgow, Edinburgh and Bristol. Moving from one of those rather than from Ashford? Say so and we will tell you plainly whether we are the right firm for it.

Two things we will not put in writing

A transit time before the route, the load and the vehicle arrangement are known — the honest spread is far too wide for a single figure, so the quote carries an estimated window for your own consignment instead. And a duty position, which turns on your residence status and your documents, so we set out the conditions rather than imply an outcome.

Questions about moving to Europe

  1. 01

Which countries do you run to?

France, Spain, Italy and Portugal on established road routes, each with its own clearing agent and its own page here. The same vehicles reach Belgium, the Netherlands, Germany and Switzerland, so ask about those. Where a destination is not routine for us we say so rather than treat your move as practice.

  2. 02

Does being this close to the terminal really matter?

On the outbound leg it does. The uncertainty in a European move from England is nearly all in getting a loaded vehicle to the coast at a sensible hour, and from Ashford that is one short motorway run. It does not make the French end any easier, and we would not claim it does.

  3. 03

Our far end has no firm date either. Can you still plan it?

Yes, and it is a shape this firm knows well from new-build work. Collect on whichever date is certain, keep the goods listed and held, and ship when the overseas end is real. The export file is built from the list we already hold.

  4. 04

Dedicated vehicle or a shared load?

Dedicated carries your goods alone and leaves when you say. Shared travels with other consignments going the same way: cheaper, departing when the route fills. Immovable dates argue for dedicated; flexibility usually makes sharing better value.

  5. 05

    Who assembles the customs paperwork?

We do, from the inventory taken at your property and with an agent at the destination. Three things sit outside what any removals firm can obtain on your behalf: a tax number, a residence registration and a consular certificate. Each country page separates the two.

  6. 06

Will you collect elsewhere in Kent on the way?

Almost everything in the county is upstream of the terminal, so second pickups are straightforward. It needs knowing when the load is planned rather than raised on the morning.

Where is it going?

Both addresses, a rough volume, and whether the far end has a date yet. We will come back with the route, the document list and a written quote.
